New addition to the closet!

If you’re like me and every once and awhile like to treat yourself to something special then I suggest you make it worth it!
I decided it was time for a new purse!

I knew i wanted a fall colour, something I could wear dressed up, casual and would add a bang to any outfit. After an afternoon at Holt Renfrew trying bag after bag I didn't find anything that wowed me that was within my price range. Right when I decided to call it a day I saw something that caught my eye....Jewel-toned infused hues of dark turquoise leather and gold-toned hardware...Hello Alexander Wang. As soon as i tried on the Rocco Studded Shoulder bag I knew it was the one. Yes it may have been a tad over what I was hoping to spend but I knew it was an investment and will only look better with age. It really fits my style and exactly what I was looking for. Also I think I was trying to think of things to say to my husband to justify the splurge, good thing I prepped him beforehand!
It’s been two weeks now and I am loving my Rocco. Most men don’t understand a woman’s love for handbags and shoes but that’s fine, they don’t have to get it. We work hard therefor deserve something extra special every once and awhile! Also I'm happy to report my husband is definitely a fan of the bag, just as long as I don't come home and tell him I'd also like the Dove Gray one as well!

Socks with heels....you can do it!

When I'm planning an outfit and find myself looking for inspiration I like to Google different looks online (as I’m sure most of you do). I found there aren't many sites that are dedicated to outfits that work for the real world. I'm talking about regular girls who go to work, out for dinner, movies, parties or just out running around.

Wearing socks with heels is a good example as there are fantastic looks on the runway, or elaborate celebrities wearing something outrageous because they can (love you Rihanna) therefore I want to start sharing inspirations for different styles, trends, and looks that I enjoy and hope you do to.

Keeping it very causal:

Alexa Chung

Day to day
Chloe Sevigny

office appropriate

Night out

Leighton Meester

I think we know who we can thank for this look:

Dorothy, Wizard of Oz

Don't forget you can also do a high sock:

And just for fun here are a couple of girls that push the envelope which as I mentioned, you can't help but love them even more for it.

Staying stylish in the rain

Last year I treated myself to a Mackage wool coat and Hunter boots. I'm not ashamed to say have officially come out from the back of the closet. I tried to put it off but the leather coat isn't warm enough for the early morning walk to the office. I have found my new daily neccesities are a toque, scarf, wool coat, boots and umbrella.  I’ll let you know when the parka and mitts come out!

When it’s cold and wet I sometimes find it challenging to put a stylish outfit together, probably becasue all I want to wear is a big chunky sweater, leggings and slippers (and to stay inside!).

Here are a few girls that remind us we can still look stylish all bundled up.

Just one reminder: Always carry an umbrella ….nothing worse than getting caught in the rain unprepared (especially with your Chanel!!)

Elegant outdoor Wedding

Daumer and I attended a wedding over the weekend of very close friends of ours.  We have all been eagerly waiting for this wedding and knew it would be a highlight of our summer.

The ceremony was held on the top of Grouse Mountain with the reception at the Vancouver Club. It was a very elegant day with a lot of personal touches that showcased Riley and Sarah and their 8+ year relationship. The couple met in Ireland where Riley moved from Vancouver to Dublin for school where he met Sarah. He convinced her to leave her home town and move to Winnipeg for his work where they currently live. They have promised us the will be back in Vancouver by next year!!

Sarah wanted the ceremony to be outdoorsy and elegant. from her bouquet of 'blushing brides flowers' to her bridesmaids in pink duponi silk dresses, moss covered cupcake table, crystal chandelier arbour, wooden benches and the groom and groomsmen in Morning Coats it all came together perfectly. Of course the most important part of the day....the bride. Sarah looked exquisite in her Vera Wang Luxe collection - Audry dress. With her hair in loose curls, single braid and lace veil she was stunning.

Cupcake table, please take note of the Canucks cupcake!

Bridesmaid Michelle with my husband Chris.

All of the guests were dressed to the nines. A few women did an outfit change after the ceremony however my sequin dress went perfectly from day to night. Everyone looked beautiful, one women wore a large purple hat (sorry I don’t have a photo, she was fantastic).

Jenny, Nina, me and Genvieve.

Alice & Olivia dress, Nine West nude pumps, Tory Burch aviators, MK Mens watch, DIY beaded bracelet, MK belt bracelet
The couple said “I do” then it was cocktails, cupcakes and back down the gondola for a private bus ride back to the city. The Vancouver Club was arranged beautifully with pink roses, white hydrangeas and silver candelabras. After speeches, dinner, dessert we proceeded downstairs to where a makeshift nightclub was ready to get the party going.
Head table
They had their first dance as husband and wife and the night took off. The Moet was flowing and the live band was fantastic, the dance floor was overflowing all night.

Although the day went quick (as it always does) it was such a wonderful day and I was so happy to be there to share it with them.

DIY wire ring

How many times have you seen an item in a store that you knew you could make yourself? I felt that way about the wire rings I kept seeing so I went to the bead store in Kitsilano and decided to give it a try. I’m not going to lie this ring took two or three goes to get the size right but I’m pretty happy with it.

Have a look and give it a try, it feels pretty good showing off something you made yourself. Let me know if you have any questions.

TNA wrap, Wilfred slip tank, Current Elliot Jeans, Sam Edelman sandals, Madewell Railway Minibag, Michael Kors Stackable Rings, Ray Ban wayfarer

I'm going to start off by saying my blogging skills need a little work. For starters I didn’t clue in to taking photos until I was 2 steps into the process and second I’d like to apologize for the photo quality. I’m not sure why there is a dark shadow at the bottom of each shot, clearly we need a new camera!

Supplies:
×          22mm wire
×          Pliers
×         Cutters
×        Stone with hole drilled through it.

Directions:
Cut your wire (again my apologies I didn’t measure, next ring I will be more attentive to what I’m doing ha).

Wrap the wire around your finger app. 3 times then cut the wire and fold it under. Have one end long enough to feed the stone through until it feels secured to the ring. You can now wrap the wire over the stone if you choose. I did this time, I think it adds to the look.

Once you're happy with the setting and look just wrapping the wire around the base of the stone. Make sure you use the pliers when securing the wire to be sure you don't have a sharp end coming out.

If your wire is long enough you can proceed to wrap it around the ring portion, if not cut the wire as close as you can and use the pliers to tuck the piece in. Get another piece of wire and wrap till you've gone all around the ring.

I found the pliers got in the way so I just used my fingers, after a while my hands got really tired. Remember it's worth it once it's done.

I ended up wrapping the wire around the ring a second time, just to give it a bit more depth.

The great thing about a ring like this is that it's not supposed to be perfect, the messy wire adds character.
I think the three main points I would recommend are:
Pick a stone you’re drawn to, try to get the size right when you’re starting (it’s no fun taking it apart and starting again, trust me!)and lastly have fun, these are unique and one of a kind, just like you!

A wise woman once said:

"The beauty of a woman is not the clothes she wears, The figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It's the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years"

Tied over a dress or skirt...very cute!

Here’s one that although I love experimenting with fashion this look might be a tad much for me.
